“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”
When we refer to self improvement and self discovery, the predominant thoughts are of “self”. We don’t usually think about how much we can learn about ourselves by considering what we do for others. We’re all a work in progress so don’t beat yourself up just because you may discover you could do better.
Make a conscious effort this week to do something nice for someone else. It doesn’t have to require you going out of your way. If this is something which is already a part of you then that’s wonderful. I’m speaking to those who may have come to the realization that they can do better. Start off with whatever your heart moves you to do. It can be as simple as letting someone in who needs to merge into your lane. It can also be something as simple as smiling back at someone you make eye contact with. If you go to the grocery store and you have fifty items but someone comes up with a few items, let them go in front of you. You will be surprised at how over time what seems like small acts of kindness are actually a bigger deal than you think.
When you let your heart guide you rather than your mind (thinking too much) bigger opportunities to help larger groups of people will emerge naturally. You’ll be surprised at how your perspective of life will change drastically. Karma is real. Sometimes we find ourselves wondering why people aren’t present for us when we need them. At times we need to ask ourselves “Are we ever present when others need us?” Are we even aware of such a need? Sometimes it won’t be received as you expect because the joy in helping others isn’t vested in how they respond or what rewards you get in return. It’s vested in the authenticity of the act itself.
Love and Light,
