Western medicine treats mental and physical disease (dis-ease) with medication rather than use of holistic and ancient healing practices.  Many holistic doctors and natural healers among those with personal experience can attest to the fact that disease cannot live in an alkaline body.  Your diet and lifestyle contribute tremendously to whether disease can progress in your body.  No one is exempt from disease but we can control whether or not it progresses.

That’s where diet and lifestyle come in.   Lifestyle can involve everything from exercise to meditation, prayer, and how you handle stress on a regular basis.  Our bodies are so complex but we need balance on many levels in order for our bodies to function in a way that benefits our health.  Read more about the importance of the body’s ph, benefits of an alkaline body, and the prevention and cause of disease (specifically Cancer) here, here, and here.

Self Care Fridays: Honor your feminine power…

“Yoni” is the sanskrit word for the female genitalia which means “sacred space.”

Your sacred space is not confined to the space within your home where you meditate, relax, or find solace from the outside chaos.  We focus so much on clearing outside forces that we tend to forget about the inside.  You also have a sacred space within.  As women, nothing compares to our divine feminine energy within which starts with our yoni.  Adopting ancient healing practices including ayurveda for yoni health is imperative in my spiritual journey.  Honor your sacred space by reclaiming the feminine power we all have at some point or presently neglect.  We’re so jaded by Western medicine that we fail to understand that it’s only meant to keep us sick so they can profit from our illness.

Do your own research on best natural healing practices for yoni health.  There’s a ton of information about how to connect to your divine feminine energy.  Keep an open mind and toss out the old beliefs from the programming we’re bombarded with from Western culture.  They aren’t for your highest good only to fatten the pockets of those affiliated with the pharmaceutical companies.  Here are some basic yoni health tips:

  • wear cotton underwear
  • avoid sleeping in underwear
  • use a separate ph balanced wash for your yoni
  • avoid tight clothes that constrict the yoni area
  • take epsom salt or sea salt baths weekly
  • use unbleached, cotton pads or tampons during your menses
  • completely avoid feminine products (most are filled with chemicals that do more harm than good)
  • consider meditations that focus on connecting with feminine energy, the womb, and reproductive parts

I’ll be following up on this as I explore other practices such as the use of yoni eggs, yoni steams, and other natural alternatives including herbs for yoni health.

Wellness Wednesday: Gemini Supermoon and Full moon rituals!

Wednesdays are now “Wellness” Wednesdays to allow for more flexibility in the type of information I share.  I’ll still include super foods into the mix but I have other information to share so I wanted to switch it up a bit.  So, for the sake of being thorough in my attempt to advocate for mind, body, soul connection I want to start off this Wellness Wednesday with a brief introduction to moon rituals.  In honor of this Gemini Supermoon we’ve been blessed to witness, I wanted to share this full moon ritual with you.  I’ve been doing full moon rituals for the past few months every full moon.  One word describes my experience.  AMAZING.

In short, moon rituals involve energy work for the purpose of helping you clear and release what does not serve you (full moon ritual) to make room for what does serve you by setting new intentions as to what you want to manifest (new moon ritual).  This is what works for me.  You may not be into it and that’s fine.  I just thought I’d share for those who are interested.  Mysticlipstick, who also goes by “mysticxlipstick” on twitter and instagram is an astrologist who knows her stuff.  I find her extensive knowledge of zodiac signs to be intriguing.  She’s got skills.  So,  of course I couldn’t help but wonder about these moon rituals she’s known for posting on twitter during the new moon and full moon cycles.

Self Care Fridays: Get an energy boost with peppermint oil!

I’ve been a fan of essential oils for years now to clean the house, skin care and beauty purposes, for diy hair oils and butters and the list goes on.  Most mornings when I need a boost, I will slowly inhale some of my  peppermint essential oil because it helps to wake me up.  I love the smell of tea tree and peppermint oil.  I would use them both interchangeably.   Aromatherapy works wonders when used safely and properly.

I recently discovered that one of my favorite natural living bloggers HeyFranHey uses a peppermint oil based massage oil which she says helps to relieve stress.  Typically, I would just inhale peppermint oil and have applied it to my skin topically with a carrier oil (sweet almond oil).  Fran suggests adding the massage oil to your neck and shoulders which are areas where tension tends to build up resulting in headaches.

So, over the past week or so I’ve been using a peppermint/sweet almond oil mixture.   I use a few teaspoons of sweet almond oil and add two drops of peppermint oil, mix it together in my hands, and apply to my neck and shoulders. I’ll report back how it works for me after I give it more time but so far so good.  Along with daily meditating, mindfulness and other spiritual practices I’ve been able to control my anxiety.   I cannot say that anxiety goes away completely but it can be reduced.  I’ve been making necessary changes to improve my mood and overall health and this one is quite effective.   Between matcha green tea and peppermint oil my energy has been on fleek for the past few weeks.  I’ve added these to my morning ritual to start the day off on the right foot.  Don’t forget to check out heyfranhey.com  for Fran’s  peppermint argan oil for stress relief.

Spiritual Thursdays: You’re not crazy, you’re just waking up

5 Spiritual Awakening Symptoms

  4.  You’re starting to question everything you’ve been taught.
  5.  You feel the need to be alone more often.

First, I want to stress that these general symptoms are subjective.  You don’t have to have them all but in some way you can identify with them.  Remember, these are only five of many symptoms.  A spiritual awakening (enlightenment) experience is different for everybody.  So, it’s quite difficult to “define” but easier to describe.  Based on my experience, my spiritual awakening began with a “change” in my subconscious which affected how I perceived the world and myself.   There was a desire for a deeper meaning of life which usually involves an urge to explore one’s life purpose.  Because of this urge to explore deeper meanings, understandings, and discovering your life purpose you’ll begin to question a LOT.  It also doesn’t  happen all at once.

It may be questioning your religion and other beliefs, what you eat, what’s going on in the world, the news, media etc.  You start to detach yourself from societal norms and standards that you once followed as you realize you followed blindly.  You may feel a connection to a higher power or desire connection to a higher power.  Feeling a heightened sense of compassion for others including animals, the planet, and issues that don’t just affect you directly.

You may think you’re going crazy or something is wrong with you but actually you are awakening.  I like to refer to it as “remembering” or “returning” to your authentic self because you’re not technically “changing”.  You are just waking up from a slumber so to speak.  It was bound to happen because of the cosmic shift.  The cosmic shift represents a shift in consciousness where people are starting to recognize their connection to the universe and each other as a whole.  A need to shed oneself of old habits, patterns, behaviors and thought processes plays a huge part in the subconscious change during one’s awakening.

Here’s something else that’s interesting…You can have more than one awakening.  There are levels to this because life is complex.   Awakenings don’t just flow in a specific order starting and then ending in one cycle.  There are many twists, turns, leaps, and falls.

You are equipped to handle the turbulence but the key is learning to let go.  There’s so much to let go of starting with the ego.  That’s not an easy thing to do which is why there are cycles to awakening.  You’re shedding layers in order to reveal your truth; your authenticity.  Keep in mind, it’s more about remembering not changing.  So, let’s start remembering together.

Self Care Fridays: Purge and release…

With this week starting off with a Supermoon Monday evening, I’ve been pretty moon-obsessed.  I’m learning more about the strong influence of energies from the moon.  I’ve even been moved to take epsom salt baths in the moonlight as my windows allow much light to come through.  The type of influences depend on the cycle because they each serve a different purpose.  Read more about them here.  You can also just google or read books on moon cycles but the site in the link is insightful, direct, thorough, and informative.

A few months ago, I started doing moon rituals (specifically, new moon, full moon and black moon) to help me in my quest to release what no longer serves me to make room for what does serve me.  I do the New Moon rituals to set new intentions after clearing the old with the full moon rituals. They’re completely separate rituals.  I find these to be very effective as I am noticing results which are gradual and different for each individual.   For me, it’s about renewing my mind, body, and soul through a process of rebirth.  So, I’m preparing for my rebirth because well…Why not?  I’ve been tired of living in the matrix, relying on external influences to determine my reality.  I’m taking control of my reality by removing the old ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving which keep me stagnant.   I also feel that it is a more effective way for me to become more connected to God, the universe and source energy.  God cannot move in my life if there is clutter.

Purge and release is key to ridding yourself of clutter.  This stands for internal and external clutter.  So, yes.  It would be advisable to clear your immediate space at home and your office/workplace space but do what you think is best.  From my experience,  covering all fronts provides more balance.  The ultimate goal here is to reach a level of homeostasis which suits you.  Simply put, anywhere you spend a good amount of your time needs to be clear of clutter but these things take time.  Pace yourself and start with the area of life that needs work in this present time to avoid overwhelming yourself.

Whether you do or don’t use moon rituals you may find it helpful to find some form of intervention that will suit your needs and be most effective.
