Foodie Tuesdays: Tuscan Bean soup

Easy Tuscan Bean Soup (30 Minute Mondays!)

What makes this a perfect comfort food meal for any day of the week?  It’s quick, easy to make, flavorful, and hearty!  I tried this recipe this week as a Sunday night meal due to my recipe fail on Saturday.  I had to redeem myself and I did because we all loved this tuscan bean soup.  I’m quite the fan of tuscan style food.  It’s versatile too! You can add some potatoes if you want.  You could also make this vegan style by skipping the cheese which would be a great option if you’re detoxing.  Soups are  detox friendly meals as long as they’re packed with veggies.  The crusty bread is a must though unless you’re against bread!  There’s something about these hearty soups and crusty bread that help us get through the winter.  Perfect for those cold, snowy or rainy winter nights!  Enjoy!  Recipe here!

Self Care Fridays: Set Goals and Crush ‘Em!

Peace Soulstars,

One of my favorite forms of meditation involves movement.  Anything dance, barre (pure barre to be exact), yoga which involves moving the body resonates with my spirit.  Sitting still is cool but I much more prefer to move.  It’s just as effective but adds variety to my meditation practice and variety is a must for me because I bore easily.  Insert amazing yogi Adriene from “yoga with Adriene” whose yoga videos I’ve been using for my home yoga practice for years now.  I’ve just finished day 2 of the “31 days of yoga” series with Adriene of “Yoga with Adriene” on youtube. I started the 2016 yoga series but fell off.  Well, this year I plan to keep it up throughout the 31 day stint.  I’m all about goal setting because it’s motivating to have done 2 days back to back.  It actually goes by fast because I enjoy it so much.  I make sure I do yoga first thing in the am or after a light breakfast.  So, I’ve made it a part of my morning routine which helps tremendously.

I’ve been off and on with my home yoga practice due to a two year stint with pure barre which took over for a while starting in 2014.  Back to my yoga now and I am truly loving this series.  Adriene takes it easy, doesn’t rush you, and encourages you to go at your own pace.  I love her clarity in describing each transition from pose to pose and her overall vibe.  Her style resonates with me so much that I’m thinking of doing yoga morning and night (right before bed) just because.  The list of health benefits of doing so is endless.  Check out yogarevolution with Adriene here.  I’ll check in from time to time throughout the month to follow up.  Nama-Slay!

Wellness Wednesdays: The “Mother” of all super foods!

acvhealth

Many say “An apple a day keeps the doctor away” but what about a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar which will do that and thensome?

Peace Soulstars,

Before the whole acv (apple cider vinegar) craze my mother has been the main pusher of taking acv for EVERYTHING.  lol…It’s actually a recurring joke in my household that anytime anything hurts or you get any kind of ailment my mother insists that you “Get the vinegar!”  “The vinegar” without a doubt being apple cider vinegar with the “mother” in it.  The “mother” is a filmy looking matter that contains enzymes and nutrients that make acv beyond amazing in treating your body good.  Over 15 years ago (and beyond) my mother has been such an advocate for taking acv as a natural remedy for everything from high blood pressure to body aches and dental issues.  In fact, she is the natural remedy queen so it’s inevitable for me to have become a natural healer myself.  What can I say?  It’s in my dna!

I can honestly say that for the past six years I have been flu free despite maybe a bout of a cold here and there.  When my family gets sick we  never take over the counter medicine.  We stick to natural remedies that are highly unlikely to cause unpleasant side effects.  If I ever do get sick, it’s happens when I haven’t been taking my apple cider vinegar regularly.  I went a whole two years during grad school with no illnesses and I was stressed beyond measure.  I can only attribute it to my vitamins and acv tea which I drank almost daily during that time.  Oh yeah, and I haven’t had a flu shot since I was pregnant with my daughter which was over ten years ago!  ACV is a staple in my household for stomach issues, colds/flu prevention and treatment and I’ve also cured a wart my daughter had by using acv topically.

I like variety because I get bored easily so I use it in different ways.  The apple walnut salad from yesterday’s post includes an apple cider vinegar based salad dressing.  One of my favorites is a tea that I make from 2 tablespoons (1 tablespoon for newbies) of apple cider vinegar with raw honey and cinnamon.  If I’m feeling adventurous, I’ll add some ginger and freshly squeezed lemon juice to the mix.  I’ve also been brave enough to take a tablespoon of acv straight and chase it with a cup of water but it’s not for the fainthearted.  I can attest to many of the health benefits and I’m open to trying other ways to add acv to my daily routine.   For more acv info click here , here, and here!

This apple walnut cranberry salad is already packed with flavor but ingredients can easily be altered to your taste.  Instead of gorgonzola use feta or omit the cheese altogether.  Add honey to the homemade dressing for a touch of sweetness.  This salad is perfect alone or served with a main dish.  Check it out here!

Inspire Me Mondays: New Year, Fresh Start

mantras

Peace Soulstars,

Happy new year and new beginnings to all! I hope your new year is getting off to a positive start!  I can confidently say that I prepared for 2017 during 2016 (and prior) by changing my thought process and putting in work accordingly.  Mantras have helped me tremendously in my life journey particularly on a spiritual level.  I now don’t feel a need to make new year’s resolutions and have given up the whole ideal that I’m going to miraculously be a “different” person in the new year.  Instead, I take it one day at a time to do what I need to make the best of life.

I cannot stress enough how changing the way that I think has impacted my overall outlook on everything.  Less focus on things I cannot control and more focus on what I can control while understanding that thoughts do have power…Words do as well.  So, for a boost of inspiration, I thought it would be fitting to start off the first week of 2017  with mantras that help you reach a higher level of consciousness.  The mindunleashed shares 10 mantras that will get you immense peace of mind, spirit, and energy.    All of these mantras have played a major role in my spiritual growth and all other areas of my wellbeing.

Wellness Wednesdays: Why body PH is important

“Every single person who has Cancer has a PH that is too acidic” ~Dr. Otto Warburg

“A society that keeps cures a secret so they can continue to sell medication for huge profits is not a real society but a huge mental asylum.” ~Dr. Sebi

Peace Soulstars,

Western medicine treats mental and physical disease (dis-ease) with medication rather than use of holistic and ancient healing practices.  Many holistic doctors and natural healers among those with personal experience can attest to the fact that disease cannot live in an alkaline body.  Your diet and lifestyle contribute tremendously to whether disease can progress in your body.  No one is exempt from disease but we can control whether or not it progresses.

That’s where diet and lifestyle come in.   Lifestyle can involve everything from exercise to meditation, prayer, and how you handle stress on a regular basis.  Our bodies are so complex but we need balance on many levels in order for our bodies to function in a way that benefits our health.  Read more about the importance of the body’s ph, benefits of an alkaline body, and the prevention and cause of disease (specifically Cancer) here, here, and here.

Self Care Fridays: Honor your feminine power…

yoni

“Yoni” is the sanskrit word for the female genitalia which means “sacred space.”

Peace Soulstars,

Your sacred space is not confined to the space within your home where you meditate, relax, or find solace from the outside chaos.  We focus so much on clearing outside forces that we tend to forget about the inside.  You also have a sacred space within.  As women, nothing compares to our divine feminine energy within which starts with our yoni.  Adopting ancient healing practices including ayurveda for yoni health is imperative in my spiritual journey.  Honor your sacred space by reclaiming the feminine power we all have at some point or presently neglect.  We’re so jaded by Western medicine that we fail to understand that it’s only meant to keep us sick so they can profit from our illness.

Do your own research on best natural healing practices for yoni health.  There’s a ton of information about how to connect to your divine feminine energy.  Keep an open mind and toss out the old beliefs from the programming we’re bombarded with from Western culture.  They aren’t for your highest good only to fatten the pockets of those affiliated with the pharmaceutical companies.  Here are some basic yoni health tips:

Yoni Health tips:

  • wear cotton underwear
  • avoid sleeping in underwear
  • use a separate ph balanced wash for your yoni
  • avoid tight clothes that constrict the yoni area
  • take epsom salt or sea salt baths weekly
  • use unbleached, cotton pads or tampons during your menses
  • completely avoid feminine products (most are filled with chemicals that do more harm than good)
  • consider meditations that focus on connecting with feminine energy, the womb, and reproductive parts

I’ll be following up on this as I explore other practices such as the use of yoni eggs, yoni steams, and other natural alternatives including herbs for yoni health.
