My love for essential oils for dates back to childhood when my mother introduced me to tea tree oil. My stash contains over 15 types of oils including most of the ones on this list. My favorites and most used are tea tree (melaleuca), lavender, and peppermint oils. Although I love many of the others too. I just need to familiarize myself with the new additions which include frankincense, myrrh, and clary sage to name a few.
I’ve used essential oils for everything from skin care to adding them to my vacuum filter for some aromatherapy while cleaning. One of our favorite ways to use essential oils is with a diffuser. Aromatherapy is a necessity in our home because we love anything that smells good. It has a tremendous affect on your mood and health in general. There are many different uses for essential oils as you can see and I haven’t even shared all of the ones I’ve tried. I’ll be sharing them periodically on the blog because I use them on a daily basis. Hope you find the above list of essential oils helpful!
Love and Light,
I know it’s been a minute since I’ve blogged. I’ve actually been doing my research on different topics I want to share and do videos on but also been working on practicing what I preach on here. I have been putting my energy toward that healthy mind, body, and soul connection with emphasis on health. I have been using essential oils for health and beauty purposes even more than usual. My daughter had a fever some weeks ago that was decreased after I gave her a peppermint oil sponge bath. I was very impressed with how fast it worked and its effectiveness in general. So, I was inspired to keep using the oils regularly for other uses. I have a pretty decent stash of essential oils that have been put to good use for many things. Speaking of essential oils, I have discovered a very useful recipe after doing some research online and looking through this book:
It contains a wealth of information about the origin of essential oils, the many types and uses etc. With that said, I have stumbled upon a gem which is an all natural DIY disinfectant spray which I’ve been using in place of Lysol because I’m not a fan of the ingredients. This self proclaimed germophobe was a Lysol fanatic but I couldn’t stand the coughing and irritation to my sinuses that happened immediately upon spraying it. So, I found a recipe to make a spray similar to Lysol as far as its purpose which is to disinfect but with cleaner ingredients! I used the following essential oils:
- Eucalyptus oil: an all natural germicide with antibacterial properties
- Rosemary oil: a fragrant oil with antimicrobial properties
- Lavender oil: another fragrant oil with many uses but used in this recipe for its antiviral properties
- Orange oil: smells heavenly if you are into citrus and while it is great for its fragrance it is used in this recipe because it prevents bacterial growth
It takes only a few minutes to make and can be used immediately. Although, I have found from experience that the longer you let the mixture sit the stronger it gets and more effective it becomes. Just as with anything else that you mix up the longer it “marinates” the more the ingredients get a chance to blend. I would shake it a few times during the time you let it sit just to ensure even distribution of the ingredients. It is suggested that it can be stored in a cool, dark place for 2-3 months. Here is the 5 minute video which contains the recipe and directions in the description box:
Hope you enjoy the video, try the recipe and love it as much as I do! Health is wealth! I’ll be back soon for more information about essential oils and all things natural. Until then, stay healthy!
Peace and Love,
