Inspire Me Mondays: Abundance is already yours…

Peace Soulstars,

Energy goes where attention flows.  If you continuously focus on lack, that is what you will attract.  Forget about saving gratitude for Thanksgiving ( a man made holiday).  Gratitude everyday!  Don’t forget to double the gratitude when you get to where you’re trying to go.  It’s even more crucial then.

Self-Care Fridays: Start deprogramming yourself with a television fast…

television

Peace Soulstars,

Food fasting isn’t the only fasting we need to do.  For the past few years, I have lessened the amount of television I’ve watched tremendously!  The only regret I have is that I didn’t start sooner.  I remember meeting people who said that they didn’t even own a television while others said that they didn’t watch tv at all.  I used to give them major side eye…lol…Truth is, they were onto something but I had no clue because I was not at that level of consciousness yet.  I still have some shows that I watch but when they are in their “off season” I just take a break from tv altogether.

Currently, I only watch tv in the morning to gauge the weather and traffic.  Sometimes I watch to get a general idea of what’s going on in the world.  At the same time, I don’t believe that everything that’s being reported is 100% truth or fact.  I now know how to decipher what stories are enhanced versus the ones that are accurate.  Anyway,  the point is that the less tv you watch the better off you’ll be.  There’s a saying that television stands for “telling lies visually”.  I’ve grown to learn that there is much truth to this statement.

You’ll find that if you replace your television watching with something that involves being creative, active or doing something mentally stimulating you won’t miss tv time at all.  I actually began watching less tv when I was in grad school.   It wasn’t even an option for me because I was serious about school.  So, it was a no brainer for me to nix the tv.  I had NO time for tv watching unless I watched some shows or a movie with my daughter.   Most of my time was spent preparing for class by either reading, studying, researching  and/or writing papers.  THIS was the catalyst for my wonderful discovery of life without tv which I found to be liberating.  I became very productive and I believe that my brain thanked me for it when I did so.  I could list many reasons to stop watching tv or at least minimize the amount of tv you watch but I think you get the point.

I promise if you decrease your tv watching you will become more productive and/or creative,  your house will be cleaner (if you take time to clean instead of watching tv),  and you will ultimately become happier.  I cannot guarantee all three of these will happen unless you put forth the effort.  You have to start somewhere so why not start today!  Now, tv can be entertaining, educational etc. but it’s still beneficial to just not rely solely on tv for those attributes.  Find other ways to be entertained.  Begin this weekend or next week (whichever you feel most comfortable with) by limiting the amount of tv watching you engage in.  Maybe plan to try a new hobby, make plans for lunch or visiting a museum.  I can think of a million things you can do in place of tv watching.  No need to mention them because y’all get the point!

Epsom Salt Detox Baths!

epsom-salt

Peace Soulstars,

As promised, I wanted to come in and talk about the amazingness of epsom salts!  I personally have had success taking baths with epsom salts on a weekly basis and as needed.  Typically, it’s suggested that you soak in a bath of epsom salts to soothe aches and pains which is generally very effective.  There are many reasons to take epsom salt baths including for detoxing, to relieve cold/flu symptoms, and healing the body in general.   There are claims that they’re good for reducing and eliminating cellulite and losing weight which makes sense because one of the main causes of cellulite is toxins.  So, the purpose of the detox bath is to eliminate toxins and fluid retention which can lead to reduction in cellulite and help you lose weight.  I believe that it has reduced my cellulite in the thigh area but I haven’t taken any before/after pictures.  I’m just going by my naked eye noticing what seems like an improvement in my muscle tone.   You also have to consider your lifestyle (diet, exercise etc.).   Detox baths alone will not help you lose weight and reduce cellulite if you feed your body clean foods.

You can do your research but be mindful that there is misinformation floating around especially on the internet regarding the effectiveness of epsom salts.  People can be skeptical.  If you have any concerns you can check with your doctor.   The generally healthy individual should not have any adverse reactions to epsom salts unless you have allergies or other health conditions which cause sensitivity to magnesium sulfate.  They’re made up of magnesium, sulfur and oxygen.   If you’re an individual that is on medication for whatever reason it would be wise to consult with your doctor first as well.    Just know that everything affects everyone differently.  If you have kids, be sure to reduce the amounts of the ingredients for a general recipe which tends to cater to adults.  Kids do not require the same amounts of certain ingredients as adults for obvious reasons.  Effectiveness depends on each individual including your weight and other factors but generally speaking just know as with anything else less is more.  You can always adjust amounts later.

I thought it would be helpful to share a recipe that I’ve tried for myself and my family which has been successful.  You can tweak this recipe as needed depending on the use.  The following recipe is for a detox bath I used for my daughter when she had a fever and cold/flu symptoms.  She had a temperature of 102 degrees and we needed to get it down without the use of medicine (tylenol).   If treating a fever then add the ingredients to a cool bath and use a wash cloth or bath sponge to gently massage the skin.  The cool water helps in reducing the body temperature.   I emphasize COOL because cold water is too much of a shock to the system when one has a fever.  If using this recipe for kids depending on the age cut each amount in half or more depending on the age.

General detox bath recipe (adults):

1 cup Epsom Salt

1 cup baking soda

1 tablespoon ground ginger

4 drops of lavender essential oil

*Note*

Epsom salts are natural but still check with your child’s pediatrician if they are under the age of 10.  I would suggest omitting epsom salts for baby.  A baby’s skin and  little systems can be sensitive to certain ingredients so ALWAYS check with a pediatrician and use your instincts.  If you’re unsure, then don’t use it.  Better safe than sorry.

Baby under two:  baking soda- 1/4 cup, lavender oil- 2 drops

Two to seven years:  baking soda- 1/2 cup, lavender oil – 2 drops

Eight to Ten years:  baking soda- 1/2 cup, lavender oil- 3 drops

Ten years to adult:  baking soda 1 cup, lavender oil- 4 drops

I used this bath for my daughter who was either 9 or 10 at the time.  She took the bath at nighttime.  This recipe brought her temperature down from 102 to 100 then before the night was over she ended up back at 98 degrees.   She also had relief from congestion.

Another way that I have used epsom salt baths was to relieve pain and discomfort.  The detoxing process is a form of healing for sore muscles, aches and pains but also benefits some skin conditions such as eczema and acne.  So, the great thing about these baths is there are multiple benefits because either way it heals.   Whenever I feel the need to give myself some much needed relaxation (usually once or twice a week) and don’t want to spend money on an expensive spa, I opt for my epsom salt baths. Recently,  I’ve used this bath (as described above) to soothe back pain, to reduce inflammation from my epidermoid cyst, and post surgery to heal the surgical wound.  I simply omit the ginger.  Although, it wouldn’t hurt.

Sometimes I just use epsom salts and lavender oil to keep it simple.  Also, if taken at night the lavender oil helps with inducing sleep.  So, you may not have aches and pains but just may be tense from a stressful day or week.  Try taking a bath with epsom salts and lavender essential oil.  Put some soft music on, light candles and zone out but try not to fall asleep because that may not end well.  lol… If you want to get fancy, you can add herbs, flowers and essential oils to your liking.  Just enjoy playing around with different recipes, find what works for you, and relax.  Detox baths can be done once or twice a week not every day.  It’s a process and needs time to do it’s thing so to speak.

So,  maybe begin or end your week with a detox bath.  If treating a condition such as a fever or aches and pains you may want to use the baths more often until symptoms go away but space out the time in between by a few hours depending on the urgency.   Just don’t over do it because healing takes time.  Natural remedies can work fast but sometimes they take time.  Always remember with natural remedies they can only do so much.  If there are other symptoms present or the natural remedy is just not cutting it call a doctor because you may have a more serious condition.

Wooo, this was long!  I was long overdue for a few post anyway so this makes up for lost time! lol!  Enjoy the rest of your day!  Next post I’ll be talking about sea salt baths which have a whole other purpose 😉

What I’ve been up to…

WhatIBeenUpto

Peace Soulstars,

Is it really September and I let a whole month go by without blogging?  Shame on me!  The nerve!  In my attempt to scold myself for being M.I.A. for a while I want you all to know there’s a legitimate excuse that keeps me from being too hard on myself.   There’s a reason that  August was pretty much non existent on the blog and the one year anniversary (August 15th) of Amanisoul.com got completely overlooked!  *deep sigh* That is a huge accomplishment by the way which deserves its own post (Coming Soon!).

Lots of transitions have been taking over my life as of late including a move back to my hometown, the DMV!  I wanted to just briefly take the time to explain that the lack of posts for the past month have been due  to my shift of focus solely being on packing and moving in a nutshell.  It’s been quite the experience because it was our third move in three years.  Yes, every Labor Day weekend for the last three years we have moved.  We moved to Boston in 2014, moved to another apartment (same complex) in 2015 and this year we moved to the DMV!  This will be the last move for a LONG time! I’m speaking it into existence!! *hands up to the universe*

Speaking of the universe, I almost lost my mind just a little bit (haha) but I discovered how beneficial mindfulness meditation is in maintaining my sanity.  Right now as we speak the house is still filled with boxes and I’m okay with that for someone who despises disorder.  If ever you’re faced with so many things going on at one time some of which are beyond your control make it mandatory to take time out for yourself to enjoy life.  Appreciate the “little things”.

Treat yourself to some ice cream (or a smoothie for my health conscious folks), go for a walk, get outside…Do whatever you like to do that represents life and forces you to slow down!   Focus on that one thing and take every second and minute to enjoy every morsel of “life”.  That is mindfulness.  Then you can go back to dealing with the chaos with a cool head.   We all need balance.  We need the stress to learn how to deal with challenges when they arise because there’s no escaping stress.  We can minimize it but not totally omit it.  At the end of the day, regardless of the craziness life still goes on.  Remind yourself that this is only temporary.

Well, we’re all moved in now but still lots of organizing and unpacking to do among a plethora of other things that have tested my ability to remain calm like dealing with the MVA.  In other news, in case some of you didn’t know I do have an instagram where I post more frequently with shorter more straight to the point inspirational posts.  I share my experiences in getting closer to my higher self, the mistakes lessons (because I’m human) in this journey called life, and my fascination in rediscovering the use of crystals.  Manifestation at its best!  You can find me on insta at amanisoul_.  I’m also on snapchat as missangiebee.   So many blessings and new beginnings have my level of gratitude on high!  Not only am I thankful for this next chapter.  I am also thankful that I still have my loyal audience which is you who hasn’t quit on me during the time of my absence.  Life happens and  I know y’all understand that.  So, thank you!

The break stops here though.   I needed to take time to focus on packing, preparing for the move etc.  If you’ve been there done that than you know what it all entails.  I honestly could not focus on blog posts so I would post here and there to instagram because it was just easier with the way my lifestyle was at the time of transitioning.  Transitioning is still in effect as we get used to new surroundings, people, and everything else thrown our way but we are taking it one day at a time.  Been working on new posts which I plan to start sharing soon including one about an epidermoid cyst that  has developed on my back.  I’ll discuss how I plan to use an integrative approach to healing myself because I’ll be using an antibiotic (per Doctor’s orders) in addition to natural remedies for the inflammation.  Until next time,  I hope you all have a peaceful weekend!

Love and Light,
